Job description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) – CCU provides specialized, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill cardiac patients. The RN is responsible for continuous monitoring, assessment, and management of patients with life-threatening cardiovascular conditions, working collaboratively with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in the CCU
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, hemodynamic status, and patient responses
- Assess, interpret, and respond to ECG changes and critical lab values
- Administer medications, IV drips, and blood products per physician orders and protocols
- Operate and manage cardiac monitoring equipment, ventilators, infusion pumps, and other critical care devices
- Recognize and respond promptly to cardiac emergencies, including codes and rapid response situations
- Perform and assist with invasive and non-invasive procedures (e.g., central lines, arterial lines, temporary pacing)
- Collaborate with cardiologists, intensivists, and allied healthcare professionals
- Educate patients and families regarding cardiac conditions, treatments, and recovery plans
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific)
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CCU, ICU, or critical care nursing experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of cardiac physiology, pharmacology, and critical care principles
Certifications & Requirements
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – required
- PALS – preferred (as applicable)
- NIH Stroke Scale – preferred
- Telemetry competency required
