Pay: $40 to $45 depending on experience.
Job Summary:
The EKG Technician is responsible for performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), cardiac monitoring, and other related diagnostic procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions. The technician ensures accurate test results and provides excellent patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform standard and specialized electrocardiograms (EKGs) and rhythm strips as ordered by physicians.
- Attach electrodes to patients, operate EKG equipment, and ensure accurate and high-quality tracings.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize arrhythmias; promptly report significant findings to nursing and medical staff.
- Maintain and calibrate EKG machines and related equipment.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all procedures in the patient’s medical record.
- Maintain patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality throughout all procedures.
- Assist in training new staff or students as requested.
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection control, and safety protocols.
- Participate in department meetings and continuing education activities as required.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited EKG Technician training program preferred.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent EKG experience preferred (hospital setting preferred).
- Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and arrhythmia interpretation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently during night/day shifts and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
