Job Summary

The Radiology Technologist / CT Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures (radiography and CT) in compliance with physician orders, established protocols, and safety standards. The role involves preparing patients, operating CT and X-ray equipment, administering contrast agents when required, maintaining quality and safety standards, and ensuring proper documentation and collaboration with radiologists and clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Perform diagnostic radiographic (X-ray) and CT imaging procedures in compliance with departmental protocols, physician orders, and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify patient identity, confirm imaging orders, assess patient’s medical history, screen for contraindications (e.g. allergies, pregnancy, implants).
  • Prepare and position patients appropriately for imaging, ensuring optimal diagnostic images while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Operate and monitor CT scanners, power injectors, contrast delivery systems, and related ancillary equipment.
  • Administer contrast media (IV contrast) as required, perform venipuncture/IV starts when necessary, and monitor patients during contrast administration for adverse reactions.
  • Evaluate and review images for technical quality; repeat images if necessary.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare providers to ensure imaging exams meet diagnostic needs.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, imaging logs, and documentation in PACS/RIS (or equivalent) systems.
  • Perform routine quality control checks, equipment calibrations, safety checks, and basic maintenance or troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to radiation safety protocols (ALARA, shielding, exposure limits) for patients, self, and staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the imaging suite, supplies, and equipment.
  • Provide patient education: explain procedures, answer questions, provide reassurance, and address patient needs before, during, and after imaging.
  • In some settings, assist in special procedures or interventional CT work (if applicable).
  • May provide training, orientation, or supervision to student technologists or newer staff.
  • Stay current with continuing education, advances in CT technology, best practices, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications / Requirements

Education & Certification

1. Licensure and fluoroscopy permit as required by State. 
2. ARRT-R & CT ARRT, is required. 
3. Must be familiar with State and Federal regulations. 
4. Current BCLS (AHA). 
5. At least one year of experience as a Radiology Technologist preferred. 
6. Proficient computer skills. 
7.One year of acute, clinical radiology experience is preferred. 
8.Knowledge of mobile and stationary Radiographic / Fluoroscopic equipment is required. 
9.Extensive knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology is required. 
10.Graduate of a program accredited by JRCERT. 
11.Venipuncture certificate (proficient in starting IV's for contrast injections)
