Job Summary:
The PACU RN provides high-quality care to post-surgical patients recovering from anesthesia. The nurse monitors vital signs, manages pain, assesses for post-anesthesia complications, and ensures a safe transition from the surgical setting to other levels of care or discharge. The PACU nurse collaborates closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor patients as they recover from anesthesia, assessing for airway, breathing, circulation, and neurological status.
- Administer medications including pain management, anti-nausea drugs, and IV fluids as prescribed.
- Manage post-operative complications such as respiratory distress, bleeding, or delayed emergence from anesthesia.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Educate patients and their families about post-operative care, discharge instructions, and follow-up appointments.
- Collaborate with the surgical team, anesthesia providers, and inpatient staff to ensure smooth patient transitions.
- Adhere to infection control, safety procedures, and hospital protocols at all times.
- Respond to emergencies promptly and provide life-support measures as needed (e.g., ACLS interventions).
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality throughout care delivery.
Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN required).

Licensure: Active RN license in [State].

Certifications: BLS, ACLS required (PALS preferred depending on facility population).

Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in a PACU, ICU, or ER setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of anesthetic agents and post-op complications.
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in a PACU, ICU, or ER setting preferred.
