Job Summary:

The Polysomnographic Technologist (Sleep Tech) is responsible for performing comprehensive sleep testing and analysis. This includes overnight polysomnography, multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT), maintenance of wakefulness tests (MWT), and CPAP/BiPAP titrations under the direction of a physician and according to established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for sleep studies and explain procedures.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to the international 10–20 system.
  • Calibrate and monitor polysomnographic equipment.
  • Record and monitor physiological data throughout the night, including EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory effort, airflow, oxygen saturation, and body positioning.
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies and significant events.
  • Score sleep studies using standardized criteria (AASM guidelines).
  • Perform CPAP/BiPAP titration and troubleshoot mask and machine issues.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of procedures and observations.
  • Assist with daytime studies such as MSLT or MWT when applicable.
  • Clean and sterilize equipment after use.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain certification.
